Reading Food Distribution Air Raid Shelter converted home, Reading

  Reading Food Distribution Bunker House The building began life and was built during WW2 as a heavy duty air raid shelter for staff working on the National Food Distribution at a nearby manor house, then later on after the war the bunker remained but a house 1950s style house was built above which once was a home to a very talented famous professional artist. The Manor House was the HQ of the Home & Colonial Stores who im pretty sure briefed by the Government to organise food distribution over a large part of England. The roof of this shelter is at least 18 inches of reinforced concrete. Later on during the 1950s a split level house was built on top with inside and outside 50s features, which was home to a famous artist for many years. Its said that when they tried to put a staircase in they had to drill through two feet of reinforced concrete in the roofing of the bunker. Woodley Airfield Battle HQ, Woodley Reading

The Battle HQ is converted from a air raid shelter. Main entrance is backfilled but its possible to fit a small camera through a gap or a phone for a photo.

 Situated tucked away behind Oxford Rd Pharmacy lays a now disused air raid shelter possibly a ARP Wardens Post.
